Squaring up to 2016 with On the Corner

Record label life is notoriously perilous so with the tumultuous times of 2016 it’s been a relief to see a few cultural endeavours such as On the Corner Records weather this year’s storm. It’s been a busy year for this label as they’ve fought for their survival and seemingly thrived. They’ve released an OtC remix EP, a sell out 12” from Mugwisa International Xylophone Group and the dance-floor ready globe-spanning vibes of Penya, not to mention a host of other releases including dubplates and cassettes.

With demand for their limited releases bolstered with heavy radio pressure and regular On the Corner slots on Balamii radio and Worldwide FM, they are stepping over the debris of the year with some BIG strides!

Ending the year with the highest of highs, we’re thrilled to present a surprise On the Corner final release of 2016 and can reveal Victoria Topping’s stunning artwork for Collocutor’s The Search.

Black Classical - Candomblé

On the Corner has presented an explosively percussive six track EP, Candomblé from the elusive, internet otherkin Black Classical. The Candomblé bandcamp page goes into great detail on the origins of the record’s title: “Candomblé can be considered a Brazilian religion that originates in diverse mythic-religious systems of African origin”.

Like all packages from OtC records, the psychedelic artwork has been brought to life by Victoria Topping.

Collocutor - The Search

After successfully crowdfunding a part of the campaign earlier in the year, Collocutor are back with their hotly anticipated second album, The Search. With February 2nd being the date scheduled for the band to perform the album live ahead of its release later in the month, we’re super excited to exclusively reveal the LP’s artwork.

Once again designed by the talented Victoria Topping, we can’t wait to get our hands on a physical copy of the magnificent sleeve and listen to what label friend, DJ and supporter Dom Servini has described as a “masterpiece”.

Artwork by Victoria Topping

With support already coming from Gilles Peterson on his 6Music show, this record promises to be one of the most special jazz records of 2017. What a way to start the new year for Pete OtC, Tamar Collocutor, Victoria Topping and the On the Corner team.
