GUEST PLAYLIST: POLA RISE

DECEMBER '15

Pola Rise is an up-and-coming electronic artist based in Warsaw, Poland. Her compositions are layered with ethereal vocals that decorate production from MANOID and Loxe. Together, they create a transient sound that echoes the clear influences of Björk and beyond. Having released her first EP, The Power Of Coincidence, in April of this year, Pola Rise has been making waves across Europe with her live show, complete with live synths, drums, guitar, and cello. After becoming the first Polish act to be invited for a Deezer Session in October, and with her music videos hitting well over 150,000 views, she is definitely one to watch for 2016.

Pola Rise has carefully selected a list of tracks for us, including songs that have influenced her and those that have grabbed her attention this year. From the legendary PJ Harvey to the enigmatic Icelandic Vaginaboys, check it out.

PJ HARVEY - WHITE CHALK

PJ Harvey is my favourite artist. I cried at a concert of hers, and I know every song by heart. It was hard to choose just one of her songs, but 'White Chalk' is extra special for me.

CAT POWER - RUIN

Cat Power's last album, Sun is really great! Some time ago, she had to cancel her show in Poland due to weather conditions, so she ended up DJing instead. I was fortunate enough to then meet her on stage during her DJ set... It was the best cancelled show ever!

DAMIEN RICE - DOGS

Damien Rice is a special artist for me. Everyday I seem to have a different favourite song of his. Yesterday it was 'Colour Me In', today it is 'Dogs'.

TEI SHI - BASSICALLY

This song is amazing! The vibe is unique and the emotions portray what I feel right now. This is my most recent discovery.

PATI YANG - SOUL FOR ME

Pati Yang is my favourite Polish artist. She was one of my biggest inspirations for a long while. I feel that 'Soul For Me' tells my story.

STEREOPHONICS - DAKOTA

It may not be obvious but I am a rock music baby! My adventure with music started with Nirvana, Mad Season, Alice in Chains, etc. I still go back to the Stereophonics, especially for the song 'Dakota'.

BAT FOR LASHES - GLASS

Bat For Lashes is like a fairy. She takes you on a journey to her universe.
I especially love her second album, it helps me cut off from the world.

IRON & WINE - HOUSE BY THE SEA

'House By The Sea' reminds me of a very bad period of my life. I love to listen to this song, however. It makes me think of Iceland, beautiful landscapes and sincere emotions.

LOXE - SHOULDA KNOWN

Loxe is one of the producers on my EP. I love to work with him. He is an incredibly talented musician and a great person. His music is different to mine, but I feel it completely.

VAGINABOYS - ELSKAN AF ÞVÍ BARA

I discovered Vaginaboys music during my last tour of Iceland. We played a concert together. I don't understand a word of their music, but they hypnotised me. Wonderful vibe!
