SOUND OF '17: MOROKA
Over the years Moroka has made a name for himself amongst some of the most forward thinking artists on the scene, having lent his production talents to artists such as Spoek Mathambo, Thandiswa Miazwai and most recently Baloji, whose new record coming is out on Bella Union. His previous production for Baloji can be heard on the BIG track 'Unite & Litre'. His killer remixes for Baaba Maal, Mory Kante and Child of Luv saw the development of a signature sound, and a MOBO nomination in 2012 for his work with The Very Best - a well deserved recognition of this artistic growth.
In 2016 he released a special Papa Wemba tribute tape remixing the score for the cult classic film La Vie Est Belle, which we previewed earlier last year. 2017 will see Moroka moving forward with a self-released EP on his own imprint Palm City Records and exclusive releases for a number of labels yet to be announced. We can’t wait to hear his floor filling production through some heavy systems.
To get a flavour of his talents check out his NTS show last year, in which he played a choice selection of influences and plenty of his own unreleased tracks. The man’s productions span a diverse blend of influences, delivering anything that will get you shuffling on the dance floor. His rhythm-heavy tracks sit between house, techno, Kwaito, and Kuduro.
Moroka will be the soundtrack to your summer. Watch this space.
