Brainchild Finds: Boko! Boko!
Next up we've selected the selectors, DJ trio and party hosts Boko! Boko!, otherwise known as Tash LC, Mina & Juba. They stepped up to The Shack, Brainchild's late-night dance-floor deep within the woods, bringing future sounds from around the globe.
Spinning all manners of Afrobeat, dancehall, kuduro and hip-hop, Boko! Boko! are true party starters. In a similar fashion to the likes of the Banana Hill DJs and Thristian's Global Roots Soundsystem, their selections smoothly cross cultures, genres and sounds from around the world. The ease with which they do this is a level above, creating an energy that very few DJs craft. Yet Boko! Boko! own it.
In a world where many DJs have developed a focus on finding the rarest of disco, Afrobeat and jazz-funk records, Boko! Boko! are really switching things up. Despite our love for that crate-digging culture, it's beyond refreshing to hear these three selectors do things their own way. With this in mind, it's unsurprising that they were crowned champions of the first ever Roundhouse Rising Soundclash earlier this year.
As gal-dem point out, the trio are challenging the status quo by curating gender-inclusive line ups at their parties and running workshops to encourage women to get involved in DJing and producing. Essentially, they're showing the music industry how things could and should be done. Big up!
We'll be heading down to their next party. You should too.
